Building the GMC Legacy

The origins of GMC go back more than a century to a man named William C. Durant and the vision he had for a different kind of car company. His idea was to bring multiple brands together under a single house—an endeavor he began as the head of General Motors. At one point, his revolutionary concept became a bit bigger than his investors could appreciate, which resulted in him leaving GM.

He moved on to Chevrolet, made them one of the biggest brands in the world, reclaimed his position at the top of GM, and then adopted Chevy into his new company. While doing this, he bought several other car companies, two of which were the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and Reliance Motor Car Company. In 1911, GM folded Rapid and Reliance into a new brand called General Motors Truck Company, which became GMC Truck.

In the years that followed, GMC established itself as the manufacturer of the most powerful and reliable trucks on the road. For instance, a GMC truck drove from Seattle to New York in just 30 days in 1916, and a two-ton GMC truck drove from New York to San Francisco in only five days in 1926. GMC trucks were a major part of the American effort in World War I, and by 1918, more than 90% of GMC's production was for the military; two decades later, some 600,000 GMC trucks were produced and used by the US Army in the Second World War.

In the decades that followed, GMC has remained a cornerstone of GM and continues to produce incredibly powerful and reliable vehicles. These days, GMC and Chevy have a lot in common, and many of their models share underpinnings and engineering; with a GMC, however, you tend to find greater refinement and luxury with gorgeous interiors, innovative technology, and advanced features that set GMC vehicles apart year after year. If you are looking for an incredible SUV or truck designed to handle anything life throws at you, we can help you find a GMC that meets your needs and lives up to its incredible reputation.

Take a Look at the GMC Lineup

As you are shopping for your next vehicle, the most important thing is to understand what you need in your ride and make sure you get it. Much of that depends on your driving habits, how many passengers you expect to shuttle, and the style of vehicle that most appeals to you. Fortunately, GMC offers amazing SUVs and trucks that can meet just about any need, so let’s take a look at what they offer and see which one is best for you.

One of the things we love about GMC’s SUV selection is that there are enough options to meet a wide range of needs without going overboard by giving you too many choices. For starters, you have the GMC Terrain, which is the perfect choice if you are looking for a small crossover model with two rows of seating and a surprisingly spacious interior. If you need something larger, then the midsize GMC Acadia is the perfect choice, with three rows that make it perfect for growing families while also giving you comfortable seating and impressive technology inside. The GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV with a spacious and luxurious interior, plus the Yukon XL gives you an even longer auto with more room inside.

If you need a great truck to help you get your job done or enjoy the weekend, GMC has you covered with several amazing options. The GMC Canyon is a midsize truck designed to perfectly blend the needs of work and play, giving you plenty of muscle along with a sleek look and feel. For something larger, the full-size GMC Sierra 1500 has numerous engines and a variety of configurations, creating a truck that can handle impressive towing and take you off-road on the weekend. Finally, GMC's Sierra HD series builds on that further with improved power and performance, making them ideal choices if you need to handle greater towing or payloads.
